The conference of "Nanophotonics and Micro/Nano Optics II", co-chairedby Prof. Zhiping (James) Zhou of Peking University and Prof. Kazumi Wada of the University of Tokyo was held successfullyas part of Photonics Asia 2014, in Beijing International Conference Center betweenOct. 9-11, 2014.

"Nanophotonics and Micro/Nano Optics II" focusedon the design, fabrication, and application of micro/nanostructures that facilitate the generation, propagation, manipulation, and detection of light from the infrared to the ultraviolet. This year's conference consistedof 8 sessions with 15 invited oral presentations, 30 contributed oral presentations and 25 poster presentations. Many world renownedprofessors and scholarspresented their visions and recent research progresses, including Prof. Kazumi Wada (University of Tokyo), Prof. Graham T Reed (University of Southampton), Yasutomo Ota(University of Tokyo), Prof. Ching-Fuh Lin(National Taiwan University), Prof. Anatoly V. Zayats (King’s College London) etc. It was one of the most crowded conferences with standing room only every day, observed by the Photonics Asia organizers.

SPMers had two oral presentations in Photonics Asia 2014:“Fabrication and characterization of Er silicate compound nanowire light source”byAsso. Prof. Xingjun Wang and “Extraordinary transmission through gain-assisted silicon-based nanohole arrays at telecommunication regime” byMehdi Afshari Bavil(Linfei Gao). All SPMers actively attended the conferenceand had a great opportunity to communicate with the speakers and other attendees.
