In the competition of “Best Student Paper” in Asia Communication and Photonics Conference (ACP) 2013, SPM member Tiantian Li won the award with the paper “10Gb/s 53.1-km BPSK transmission of silicon Mach-Zehnder modulator”. The other co-authors are Junlong Zhang, Huaxiang Yi, Wei Tan, Qifeng Long, Zhiping Zhou, Xingjun Wang, and Hequan Wu. Her advisors are Prof. Hequan Wu and Prof. Zhiping Zhou. The award ceremony was held in the Golden Hall of the Great Hall of the People on Nov. 14, 2013.
In this work, high performance Silicon MZI modulator with high modulation efficiency and large bandwidth has been demonstrated.10Gb/s 53.1-km BPSK transmission has been conducted employing the Silicon MZI modulator. 25Gb/s BPSK has been demonstrated based on the 2mm long device with driving voltage as low as 6Vpp.
The competition is held annually as a part of the ACP conference. Research papers from many different countries accepted in ACP could join the competition and only 20 papers would be awarded
considering overall the performance of the presentation and the quality of the paper.
