From Dec. 5th to 9th, invited by Prof. Zhiping (James) Zhou, Prof. Xiang Zhang visited SPM group and gave three lectures as part of the “Lecture series by renowned overseas scholars” at Peking University and “Celebrity Forum of the School of EECS”.

Prof. Xiang Zhang is the Ernest S. Kuh Chaired Professor at UC Berkeley and the Director of NSF Nano-scale Science and Engineering Center (SINAM). He is a member of US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and fellow of APS, OSA, AAAS and SPIE. 

This time his lectures are about optical metamaterials and nano plasmonics, in which field he is the top-level expert all around the world. The title of his three lectures are “Metamaterials” “Superlens and Transformation Optics” and “Photonics Beyond Diffraction Limit: Nano-scale Laser, Waveguide and Cavities”, respectively. During the lectures, he introduced the basic theory and the most advanced work of his group.

More than two hundred faculties and students from Peking University and other universities and institutes such as Tsinghua University, Chinese Academy of Sciences were attracted to the lectures. In addition to the lectures, Prof. Zhang visited SPM lab and discussed with SPM members on some detailed topics in depth.
